VIRULENCE OF ENTOMOPATHOGENIC NEMATODES TO THREE SOFT SCALE INSECT SPECIES

چکیده

Virulence of commercial strains entomopathogenic nematode (EPN) Steinernema carpocapsae (Weiser), feltiae Filipjev and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora Poinar (Rhabditida: Steinernematidae, Heterorhabditidae), were tested on young females Pulvinaria hydrangeae Steinweden, Partenolecanium corni (Bouché) Coccus pseudomagnoliarum (Kuwana) (Hemiptera, Coccidae) a native strain H. was citricola scale, C. pseudomagnoliarum. The laboratory tests carried out in small plastic Petri dishes with infective juveniles (IJ) applied filter paper covering the bottom. Results showed that all EPN virulent to three soft scale insect species. Recorded mortality insects at highest concentration approximately 50 IJ per cm2 exceeded 64% combinations species tested. Within same concentration, scales’ 90% above recorded for P. species, S. (Nemastar) strain. All good hosts This is first report EPNs parasitize one few among Coccoidea. level parasitism promising potential use management insects.

CONTROL OF INSECT PESTS WITH ENTOMOPATHOGENIC NEMATODES I. Control of Weevils with Entomopathogenic Nematodes

Entomopathogenic nematodes in the genus Steinernema and Heterorhabditis have been successfully commercialized as biological control agents for a variety of curculionid species. Nematode-based products have been introduced for: 1) root weevils, Otiorhynchus spp. 2) billbugs, Sphenophorus spp. 3) the apopka weevil, Diaprepes abbreviatus, and 4) the citrus root weevil, Pachnaeus litus. Several oth...

Viability and Virulence of Entomopathogenic Nematodes Exposed to Ultraviolet Radiation.

Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) can be highly effective biocontrol agents, but their efficacy can be reduced due to exposure to environmental stress such as from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Our objectives were to 1) compare UV tolerance among a broad array of EPN species, and 2) investigate the relationship between reduced nematode viability (after exposure to UV) and virulence. Nematodes exp...

DOI: 10.2982/PPS.8.1.60.   In the recant decade, biopesticides with entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) have been developed with using different methods and materials. But the production of such biopesticides has always accompanied by some limitations such as low quality o...

What are you focusing on at the moment? I am still carrying on with my research into the molecular mechanisms of memory, currently focusing on the link between CaMKII and AMPA receptors during memory consolidation. But two years ago, funded by the BBSRC, we embarked on an exciting new project, investigating the link between decision-making and learning in Lymnaea. This project uses much less mo...

Virulence of Entomopathogenic Nematodes to Plum Curculio, Conotrachelus nenuphar: Effects of Strain, Temperature, and Soil Type.

The plum curculio, Conotrachelus nenuphar, is a major pest of stone and pome fruit (e.g., apples, pears, peaches, cherries, etc.). Entomopathogenic nematodes (Steinernema spp. and Heterorhabditis spp.) may be used to control the larval stage of C. nenuphar following fruit drop. Indeed, certain entomopathogenic nematodes species have previously been shown to be highly effective in killing C. nen...
